Nursing Older People Award finalist: Lesley Spall

Nursing Older People Award finalist: Lesley Spall

Specialist practitioner for care homes Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust

Lesley has created and implemented an innovative bespoke hydration toolkit for care homes that has increased awareness of its importance, and the signs and symptoms of dehydration in older people. The resources include a screening tool, which is improving assessment, care planning and monitoring of those at risk of becoming dehydrated. Posters are displayed in homes as a visual reminder and Lesley delivered education sessions to help staff devise strategies for people who can drink, can’t drink or won’t drink.
