Mental Health Practice Award finalist: Barbara Jayson

Perinatal mental health adviser, Best Beginnings, Specialist liaison health visitor, St George’s Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust

Barbara has been shortlisted for driving the development of a training film raising awareness among healthcare professionals and commissioners about perinatal mental health. ‘Beyond Baby Blue’ is a powerful drama that weaves women’s true experiences into the story of a pregnant woman who suffers postnatal depression. Barbara says: ‘Early detection is crucial, but many healthcare professionals are unsure of perinatal mental health pathways and some are unsure of warning signs and symptoms. This film aims to improve their knowledge, thereby improving the treatment of mothers and subsequently their attachment with their babies.’
