Nurse Awards

Leadership Award finalist: Ann Simms

Leadership Award finalist: Ann Simms

Lead nurse clinical manager, West London Mental Health NHS Trust

Ann has devised a nurse development pathway to try to address difficulties in recruiting clinical nurse specialists to child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Traditionally, CAMHS nurses are employed at band 7, but there is no post-registration career pathway, which has led to a shortage of nurses with the necessary skills to work in the field. Ann’s pathway fills that gap by identifying band 5 and 6 mental health nurses with an interest in working with children and young people, and offering a development package tailored to each nurse. As well as formal academic training, the nurse holds a caseload appropriate to their experience.
