Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Network

A network of nurses across Northern Ireland is ensuring that all cancer patients have access to clinical trials. Managing a portfolio of 50-60 trials, the 25 clinical research nurses (CRN) have improved the care and experience of patients receiving new and developing treatments through their trial journey, from consent to treatment and afterwards. Each is the primary or associate CRN for their own continuously developing portfolio, acting as site co-ordinator and promoter, supporting preparation and training, and liaising with research and clinical teams, as well as appropriate support services. They also co-ordinate the care of a caseload of patients during consent, screening and participation. A total of 9,040 participants have been recruited into 201 regional studies and more than 1,000 patients remain on follow up. Patient feedback is very positive.
