Child Health Award winner: Ruth Butler

School nurse, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust

Ruth has created an online service giving teenagers information to manage their health. Health Matters includes evidence-based health education resources that young people can access independently and confidentially, as well as links to recommended websites, factsheets for school nurse consultations and common condition care plans. Young people can easily and confidentially access the school nurse for help without having to go through school staff. Presentations on the site are used trust-wide in health education sessions, (for example, on menstruation), and staff training sessions, for example on anaphylaxsis.
