Ms Green said she is ‘delighted’ to be accepted on to the leadership development programme, which develops skills in the health and higher education elements of the dean’s role.

She will join a cohort of leadership scholars and aims to build a network with senior leaders across healthcare settings.

Recipients of the award are also given opportunities to define long-term career objectives.

Ms Green said: ‘This will help me with my career ambitions, but perhaps more importantly enable me to continue to raise the profile of nurse and midwifery education here at UWE Bristol.’

UWE Bristol pro vice-chancellor and executive dean of health and applied sciences Steven Neill said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled that Sarah has been awarded this prestigious scholarship.

‘It recognises her outstanding leadership of the department of nursing and midwifery here at the university, and the shared commitment of UWE, the Florence Nightingale Foundation and the Council of Deans of Health to develop world-class leadership.’
