Specialist nurse joins online diabetes forum's panel of experts

Leading diabetes nurse consultant June James takes advisory board role at diabetes.co.uk

A nurse who has been instrumental in raising the profile of diabetes specialist nursing has joined the advisory board of a leading online diabetes forum.

June James, diabetes nurse consultant at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and co-chair of the national diabetes nurses group TREND-UK, will be sharing her expertise on the diabetes.co.uk board.

The website, which has 180,000 forum members and more than 2.4 million users a month, has created a panel of ten experts to help bridge the gap between people with diabetes and the clinical community. There are more than four million people with diabetes in the UK.

Members of the advisory board will take part in social media question-and-answer sessions, providing specialist clinical expertise.

Ms James is co-author of the NHS Safe Use of Insulin diabetes e-learning module, which has attracted more than 100,000 registrations.

She also helped develop a national booklet on the safe use of insulin, to complement the National Patient Safety Agency's insulin passport.

Ms James said: ‘My role as a nurse will be to widen the benefits of digital capabilities within the nursing community. I am looking forward to further enhancing the role of diabetes.co.uk, as Europe’s largest diabetes forum, in supporting people to help manage their condition.’
