RCN head of policy will move to International Council of Nurses

Howard Catton is to leave the college after more than 20 years

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has appointed RCN head of policy and international affairs Howard Catton as a nursing consultant on socio-economic issues.

Mr Catton will leave the college, where he has worked for more than 20 years, to join the ICN in April.

His areas of responsibility will include occupational health and safety, human resources development and migration.

‘I am delighted to be joining the ICN at a time of significant challenge and opportunity for the nursing profession around the world,' said Mr Catton.

‘By improving the working lives of nurses we also enhance safety and quality of care for patients.’

ICN acting chief executive Pierre Théraulaz said: ‘Mr Catton brings a great depth of knowledge and experience in a wide range of health, social, professional and workforce issues.

'We look forward to working with him to advance the ICN’s work in these critical areas.’
