RCN directors prepare to go commando for charity

Pair determined to keep up association between nurses union and military causes.

A charity which supports injured service personnel is set to benefit from the efforts of a daring pair of RCN senior managers.

Director of HR David Cooper and his deputy Peter Cocco will this Saturday (12) attempt to Survive the Yomp; an event which sees participants walk 30 miles across unforgiving Scottish Highland terrain while carrying 40 pounds of equipment on their backs.

Such gruelling training is normally only experience by Royal Marines Commandos; something Mr Cooper admits he is not.

He said: ‘The term I would use is ‘undercooked'.

‘I cycled 150 miles to Bournemouth for the RCN Congress in June, but the most I’ve done for this is a four hour walk in Wales at the weekend which left me with shocking blisters.

‘Fortunately the nurses I work with here have been offering plenty of advice on how to get through it.’

He has raised £1,500 so far which is going to the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
