Nurses have the second most important job in Britain, according to poll

YouGov poll finds nursing is ranked among top jobs

After doctors, nurses have the second most important job in Britain, a survey of 1,507 adults in Britain has found.

The respondents were asked to rank ten jobs in order of importance.

The jobs then placed third to tenth in importance were, respectively: police officers, firefighters, teachers, carers, dentists, lawyers, politicians and bankers.

YouGov carried out the online survey on behalf of care provider HC-One.

About 6 per cent of survey respondents ranked nursing as the most important, and 24 per cent said it was the second most important job, while 61 per cent of respondents said that doctors had the most important job.

Some 77 per cent ranked nursing in the top five most important jobs, and none put it lowest on the list.

Chai Patel, chair of HC-One, said the survey results reflected the ‘hard work and dedication’ of nurses.
