Nurses have had the chance to show off their hidden talents by making artworks for a new exhibition at St Pancras Hospital in London.

The Art of Caring multimedia exhibition took the theme of resilience, which was inspired by International Nurses’ Day this year.

Nurses and patients contributed more than 300 artworks for the exhibition, which is a collaboration between Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (CANDI), Kingston University and The Arts Project charity.

CANDI deputy director of nursing Caroline Harris-Birtles welcomed visitors to the opening on 21 July and said: ‘We are very keen to continue our strong support for art generally, but also to use this event as inspiration to attract further creativity from our own staff and service users.’

Hidden talents

Kingston University visiting professor and nurse Karen Norman said the exhibition provided a showcase for what nurses did and highlighted their additional, hidden talents.

Professor Norman said the work celebrated all that was good about the nursing profession.

The opening evening also featured singers and music from Key Changes, a charity providing music engagement and recovery services in hospitals and the community for people experiencing mental health problems.

The exhibition at St Pancras Hospital conference centre was curated by Peter Herbert from The Arts Project and runs until Thursday 13 October.
