Nurses' dedication honoured at remembrance events

RCN president Cecilia Anim pays tribute to the compassion and sacrifice of nurses in conflicts around the globe

The contribution made by nurses during conflicts around the world was honoured by RCN president Cecilia Anim and council member Roy Tomlinson last week, when they planted crosses at the annual Field of Remembrance in Westminster.

Later that evening the RCN held its own service at its offices in Cavendish Square, at which Ms Anim said: ‘This year is particularly poignant. The Ebola epidemic has called on the bravery and hard work of medical personnel fighting the disease.

‘We marked ten years since terrorist attacks ripped through the heart of London, we commemorated the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and, 100 years after her execution, we paid tribute to Edith Cavell.

‘Throughout all of these conflicts and catastrophes, nursing staff have been there, where it mattered most.

‘We commemorate the care, compassion and dedication that nursing staff provide in the most challenging of circumstances.’
