Nurse appointed NHS England's urgent and emergency care director

Luton's chief executive will lead on urgent care as part of the five-year plan for the NHS

Nurse Pauline Philip has been appointed NHS England’s national urgent and emergency care director. Ms Philip will ensure the delivery of the urgent and emergency care review and associated elements of the health secretary’s Five Year Forward View.

Ms Philip is chief executive of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and will retain this role while seconded to NHS England. Ms Philip, who has previously worked for the World Health Organization, has an international track record in patient safety.

NHS England also appointed Matthew Swindells as national director for commissioning operations and information and Anu Singh as director of patient and public participation and insight.
