New film will boost knowledge of hepatitis C in primary care

A film aimed at raising awareness about hepatitis C among primary healthcare professionals has been launched today by the Royal College of GPs (RCGP), the Hepatitis C Trust and HCV Action.

Hepatitis C affects around 214,000 people in the UK and can lead to liver disease and cancer.

The film aims to increase healthcare professionals’ knowledge of the virus, build their confidence in diagnosing and supporting patients, as well as informing them of the latest effective treatments in primary care.

There are four sections in the film: the impact and consequences of hepatitis C, identifying those at risk, current and future treatments, and supporting people through treatment. It is structured in a way that enables reflective learning to support healthcare professionals in applying learning to practice.

The film is designed to help professionals increase their confidence and competence in identifying, diagnosing and managing hepatitis C and in offering lifestyle advice to patients by supporting them to reduce transmission risks and improving health and wellbeing, the RCGP says.
