Manx charity aims to pay a nurse's salary from text donations

Hospice Isle of Man is trialing a new method of fundraising to pay its for nurses

Hospice Isle of Man last week launched a text fundraising scheme to raise the equivalent of a year’s salary for a nurse.

Supporters are being asked to make a £5 donation via their mobile phones, with the option of this automatically continuing monthly. The campaign’s target is to reach £30,000 within a year which will be spent on a nurse’s salary.

Head of income generation Mary Doyle told the Isle of Man Courier: ‘We are always looking to make donating quicker and easier for our much valued supporters so text giving seems an easy fit.

‘Previously a donor could donate to off-island causes but it has never been done on the island so we are delighted to be a forerunner for this initiative.’
