Last chance to enter RCN photography competition

Actor Tamzin Outhwaite will lead judges in choosing image that best captures the essence of nursing

The RCN is calling on anyone who takes photographs – professional or amateur – to enter its nationwide Care on Camera competition.

The photography competition aims to capture the essence and variety of nursing life, and entries must be submitted by February 29.

The winner will be announced at RCN Congress in June and the shortlisted entries will form a touring exhibition.

RCN general secretary Janet Davies said: 'This competition will celebrate the reality of the wonderful profession of nursing. Modern nursing is complex but rewarding and Care on Camera will be a great way of showing the fantastic work that goes on up and down the country every day. The RCN centenary is a milestone in our history and this will capture a moment in time for future generations.'

A panel that includes actor Tamzin Outhwaite will judge the entries, and the first prize is £1,000.

Ms Outhwaite said: 'I have relied on nursing staff countless times in my life – from visiting my practice nurse for holiday vaccinations to the nurses and midwives who supported me when I was pregnant with my daughters. Every one of those nursing staff has impacted on my life and the lives of my children. That’s why I am thrilled to be supporting the RCN's centenary photography competition.

'This competition gives professional and amateur photographers alike the chance to submit photos of nursing staff in action, to capture a snapshot of nursing in 2016 and to celebrate 100 years of the RCN.'
