Join the campaign to make nurses' single a Christmas cracker

A choir of nurses and other health professionals have a new ally in their bid to secure the coveted number one chart position this Christmas.

Junior doctor Harriet Nerva is leading a campaign to push Bridge Over You to the top of the charts, raising some festive cheer at a time of grim pressures on staff and budgets.

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust singers who were runners-up in Gareth Malone's BBC2 show Sing While You Work, originally released the song in December 2013.

Now Dr Nerva who works at Hinchinbrooke Hospital in Cambridgeshire, has started a Facebook group to promote the song which mixes Coldplay’s Fix You and Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.  Her Facebook group already has 168,000 fans.

In order to ensure the song has the best chance of hitting the top spot in time for Christmas, Dr Nerva is asking people to hold off downloading the track until the week beginning December 19.

She explained: ‘The NHS faces a cruel winter ahead. Budget cuts, low staff morale, junior doctors balloting for industrial action, and hospitals up and down the country being classed as inadequate.

‘We've already been made one of the favourites by the Official Charts Company and the UK bookmakers, and with your support we can really do this.'

Proceeds from the song will be shared between Carers UK and Mind with a percentage to be distributed among smaller charities in the New Year.

Bridge Over You will face strong competition from this year's X Factor winner and the Star Wars theme tune as the film, The Force Awakens, opens in cinemas in the week before Christmas.
