Deadline looms to apply for maternity care improvement funding

Department of Health hopes £2.4 million fund will help halve maternal and neonatal death, as well as stillbirth

The deadline is approaching to apply to the £2.4 million maternity safety fund set up in an attempt to halve stillbirth, maternal death, neonatal death and neonatal brain injury in England by 2020.

NHS trusts can ask the Department of Health for up to £30,000 for safety equipment and education and training resources.

In addition, the government is investing £500,000 to develop a system designed to help clinicians review and learn from every stillbirth and neonatal death, as well as £1 million to pay for staff training.

Health minister Ben Gummer said: 'This new fund is part of our campaign to improve safety for the hundreds of thousands of mothers who give birth in the NHS every year.'
