Charity says film supports its campaign for review of NHS finances

A new film highlighting the potential consequences of increasing pressure on nurses and other staff has been released in a campaign for a review of health and social care funding.

The Patients Association launched the video today (March 22) to support its bid to establish an independent commission that would examine the financial needs of the NHS and social care in the UK.

It follows a recent report by the Public Accounts Committee, which said there is no convincing plan in place to achieve the £22 billion of efficiency savings that the government has called for by 2020.

Care failings highlighted in the film include a mother explaining how a two-hour delay in administering prescribed antibiotics to her son led to the three-year-old's death from sepsis.

Patients Association chief executive Katherine Murphy said: ‘The consequences of massive pressure on GPs, hospital doctors and nurses, and on the complaints system, are highlighted in our new film.’

The charity is also calling for donations so it can raise £1 million for its helpline activities.
