Charities launch film highlighting abuse of older people

Charities Age UK and Equally Ours have produced a film to highlight the increasing numbers of older people who are reporting physical abuse and neglect

Two charities have produced a film highlighting the increasing number of older people reporting physical abuse and neglect.

It tells the story of 'Charles', a care home resident who is ignored and dresssed in someone else's clothes. Staff do not know his name. The film portrays Charles's life at speed, showing him as a child, working as a postman, becoming a parent and then a grandparent.

Age UK director Caroline Abrahams said: 'People in care and their families need to know what their rights are, and providers of care need to ensure no one is neglected or abused. We know that most people who live in care homes have a good experience but Charles's story will be familiar to too many who see it.'
