Care group appoints admiral nurse

Home care company The Good Care Group appoints specialised dementia nurse

A consultant admiral nurse, who specialises in supporting people living with advanced stages of dementia, has been appointed by home care company The Good Care Group.

Penny Hibberd, who first became an admiral nurse in 1999, focuses on how family relationships are affected during the dementia journey. She will work with health and social care professionals, care workers, family carers and the person with dementia.

Her role will also include coaching and supervising Good Care Group regional team leaders, holding quarterly ‘family events’ to provide advice and information, and the opportunity to attend a one-to-one clinic.

‘By supporting the individual needs of the person with dementia and their care team, both socially and clinically, it reduces the trauma for all involved,’ she said.

Dementia UK, which provides the admiral nurse service, is hoping to increase the number of these specialised dementia nurses by 50% over the next two years.
