Fundraising nurses to cycle across the United States

Couple set £100,000 goal for their two-month charity ride

A nurse couple are embarking on a two-month endurance ride across the United States to raise £100,000 for the medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières.

Andy Dennis and Tracey Hill

Endoscopy nurse Andy Dennis, who has raised £63,000 for the charity so far, will cycle alongside his girlfriend and fellow nurse Tracey Hill from San Francisco to New York.

Mr Dennis, who works at Harrogate District Hospital, has previously undertaken a fundraising journey for Médecins Sans Frontières, walking solo from Amsterdam to Barcelona via Geneva, but said: ‘Neither Tracey nor myself are experienced long-distance cyclists and have never done anything like this before.’

Mr Dennis has worked with the charity on four missions, including spending one month in Sierra Leone at the height of the Ebola outbreak in 2014.

The pair, who embark on their trip today (May 20), met working in intensive care in Harrogate when Ms Hill was on placement as a nursing student.
