Abstract

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is expected to launch revalidation for nurses this month.

The reaction to this development has been mixed. The NMC believes that, through revalidation, nurses will provide fuller, richer evidence of a continued ability to practice safely and effectively. Many community nurses have, however, expressed anxiety about their lack of information and support.

In a survey of 1,100 community nurses, carried out by the Unite/Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association (CPHVA 2015), less than half (48%) believed that revalidation will improve public confidence in patient care.
