End of life care survey: share your experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic

Marie Curie and Nursing Standard once again team up to uncover nursing staff’s views on end of life care

Nursing Standard and the charity Marie Curie have launched their annual end of life care survey for nursing staff

Nursing Standard and Marie Curie have launched their annual end of life care survey for nursing staff.

The survey, now in its fifth year, aims to uncover nurses’ experiences of caring for people at the end of life.

Questions include:

  • How has the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic affected end of life care?
  • Advance care planning: in your experience, since the start of the pandemic, are patients more likely to have an end of life plan in place?
  • If you encountered an inappropriate do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation form, would you feel confident to challenge it?

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity providing care to people with terminal illness, either in their home or in one of its nine hospices.

Focus on end of life care plans

Marie Curie chief nurse and executive director of quality and caring services Julie Pearce said: ‘This year will mark the fifth survey Marie Curie and the Nursing Standard have come together for, looking to uncover more experiences from nurses and healthcare professionals about caring for people in the last months, weeks and days of life.

‘The past 18 months have been challenging for nurses and the profession and this experience will continue to affect our working and professional lives. This year we are exploring end of life care plans and what role they play for healthcare professionals, their patients, families and loved ones.

‘Your views and experiences matter and we would appreciate you taking a few moments to complete the survey.’

The Nursing Standard and Marie Curie end of life care survey 2021 is open to all registered nurses, healthcare assistants and nursing associates in the UK, and closes at 5pm on Monday 27 September.

Everyone who completes the survey can opt in to enter a prize draw to win one of ten M&S vouchers worth £50 each.
