Researchers are looking for up to 750 carers to help assess whether the programme can effectively lessen feelings of carers’ distress.

University of Exeter Medical School professor of age-related diseases Clive Ballard said caring for someone with dementia could be stressful and frustrating, resulting in anxiety or depression.

‘Early evidence indicates that online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy could also help reduce distress in carers.’

Finding answers

He added that the trial would find ‘robust’ answers on whether rolling the programme out would make a difference to people’s lives.

The research is co-led by the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Alzheimer’s Society.

The trial is recruiting until the end of April – find out more here.
