A team of volunteers will attempt to hike up Mount Snowden to raise funds for a charity that helps nurses experiencing personal or financial hardship.

More than 75 people, including practising nurses and those in academia, have signed up to tackle the 13km hike for Cavell Nurses’ Trust (CNT) on 13 October .

In the past year, 2,200 nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants needing financial aid due to illness, disability or domestic violence contacted the charity .

Although the distance involved is slightly longer, the hike is just one of this year’s #10KForNurses events, which the charity supports every year.

People are encouraged to do ‘10k their way’, which can involve running, walking while baking cakes, or even skydiving.

Physical challenge

NHS England experience of care lead maternity, infants, children and young people Kath Evans is one of the nurses taking part in the Snowden climb.

She said: ‘Last year, I ran – OK, part ran and walked a bit – the Bournemouth Marathon and raised money for CNT.

‘This year, I’m taking on Snowdon the day after running the Birmingham Half Marathon because one physical challenge is never enough.’

Ms Evans encouraged nurses to support CNT’s fundraising campaign.

‘We never know when hardship may strike and the amazing support that CNT offers is valued by us all.’

Opportunities to take part in the hike are still available. Anyone who wants to take part is asked to register online and commit to raising at least £250.

Tips on how to go about fundraising, as well as full details of the hike and a supporters’ T-shirt, are included in a gift pack that is sent out on acceptance.
