Aims and intended learning outcomes
This article aims to raise the reader’s awareness of a new nursing model, the Tidal Model (Barker 2000), that emphasises collaboration in psychiatric caring. Common questions about the model are used as a means of elaborating how the Tidal Model can be applied in practice.
After reading this article, you should be able to:
Evaluate the Tidal Model’s contribution to government policy initiatives
Establish the Model’s evidence base
Discuss the key principles of the Model
Indicate the ways in which the Model might be applied to an illustratory client context
Compare the care that can be delivered from within the Model to personal, current nursing practice.
