Transforming mental health services so people can ‘live, love and do’ in Barnet

Claudia Tomlinson Project manager, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, London, England
Hannah Brownlee Assistant psychologist for enablement, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, London, England

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust in London has introduced a new approach – the enablement programme – to enhance outcomes for people needing to improve their mental well-being. The focus is on transforming the clinical approach to help people ‘live, love and do’. This involves interventions to promote better housing, relationship and employment outcomes for local people with mental health needs. Link workers bridge the gap between primary and secondary mental health services, helping to secure faster access to specialist mental healthcare. They also support access to health, well-being and advisory services where specialist mental health services are not required. Given the promising outcomes, the approach is to be extended across the borough.
