Pressure ulcer care: signs, risk factors and treatment options

Pressure ulcers are prevalent in hospitals and the community. This article provides an overview of how these wounds present, which groups and individuals are most at risk and how nurses take the lead in preventing them. Pressure ulcer risk assessment tools and treatments are outlined. Nursing interventions in the SSKIN pressure ulcer prevention plan are explained to support nursing students’ understanding of this nurse-led clinical area.
