Community nursing: how to start as a newly registered nurse

Newly registered nurses can go straight into community roles after completing their nursing studies, without needing to gain hospital experience first – though this is often not clearly explained to students. A dedicated community nursing career pathway at Liverpool John Moores University and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is helping students gain practical experience, developing their confidence to apply for these roles and also boosting recruitment opportunities. The initiative is a positive approach to recruitment challenges in community nursing, experts say.
