Fall in numbers of people with learning disabilities or autism receiving inpatient care

Health and Social Care Information Centre reports a slight drop in England from March 2015 to February 2016.

The number of people with learning disabilities or autism receiving inpatient care in hospitals has fallen slightly.

From 1 March 2015 to 29 February 2016 there were 2,650 patients in England compared with 2,820 at the end of February 2015.

Of the 1,800 admissions or transfers during that time, 280 patients were under 18, while 235 of 1,970 discharges fell into that age bracket.

The data, from the Learning Disabilities Statistical Annual Overview, are the first annual report of its kind from the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
