With approximately 600 million prescriptions dispensed a year, it is likely that most of us will be offered treatment with prescribed medication at some point in our lives. Legislation and guidance states that we should be informed about such treatment, including any benefits and risks and possible alternatives. We should also have the freedom to choose or refuse the treatment without undue pressure wherever possible.
