Robert Jenkins and Maxine Jones helped to introduce a clinical governance strategy in a residential home for older people with learning disabilities. Here, they offer some personal reflections from being closely involved in the pioneering project

The adoption of clinical governance in the health service is a vital strand in attempts to promote excellence in clinical care (DoH 1998). Support for clinical governance has gathered pace over recent years and it is an important element of continuous quality improvement (CQI) in the public sector.
