People with learning disabilities can improve their health and wellbeing, and form new friendships, by joining discussion groups. Anita Murphy explains
This article explains how a discussion group was set up by a community learning disabilities nurse in partnership with other healthcare professionals to promote improvements in health and wellbeing among women with learning disabilities. The group delivers accessible health education, motivates participants to set goals and encourages them to make healthy lifestyle choices. It also ensures participants receive the support of carers and peers, and form new friendships.
