Karen Jones and colleagues review results from a survey of what service users, family members and professionals know about local guidelines on sexuality

In the North Somerset Primary Care Trust catchment area, local healthcare guidelines on relationships and sexuality may not help people with learning disabilities or those who support them as they were intended to do. This article discusses findings from a survey of people’s awareness of the guidelines. Although the sample size was small, the results indicate that most professionals, carers and families, but few clients, knew that guidelines exist. More effective dissemination of the information and training of staff are needed to solve this problem.
