Rosie Oldham-Cooper and Kate Allez examine a group intervention aimed at improved emotion recognition and management in adults with a learning disability

This article describes the evaluation of a group intervention designed to promote the improved recognition and positive management of emotions in adults with a mild to moderate learning disability. Outcomes assessed included self and carer-reports on measures of wellbeing, emotion recognition and management, and feedback on the group itself. The responses of service users and carers suggested that the 15-session intervention generally succeeded in helping service users to recognise and respond positively to their emotions, and the group was considered acceptable in its present form.
