the challenges of person centred planning

Jeantte Thompson Locality Manager with a community learning disability team based, Clifton Moor, York and a member of LDP’s editorial advisory board

Jeanette Thompson rounds off LDP’s series on person centred planning by reflecting on the challenges and opportunities that have been presented by the various contributors

Possibly the most significant challenges facing professionals today is the need to move from the ‘professional gift model’ as the basis underpinning the way we work with people who have a learning disability, to operating within a clear ‘citizenship model’. This has however increased significantly as a result of the potential inclusion of citizenship within the Green Paper for adult social care.
