Sarah New and Neil James discuss the planning and implementation of a secondary screening process for people newly transferred to a prison
The needs of offenders with learning disabilities or difficulties entering prison should be recognised and met promptly. This article describes how HMP Parc, a prison and young offenders institution for males in South Wales, introduced a secondary screening process to identify these needs. As a result, care planning, appropriate support packages and outcomes for offenders with learning disabilities have improved, and there is greater work satisfaction among the staff.
