A collaborative approach to managing sleep problems

The authors present an overview of a collaborative approach to managing sleep problems in children and young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. In response to a local need for advice and support for parents of children and young people with learning disabilities, a community team developed a structured three-week sleep clinic. The team targeted a small group of parents and carers, and provided individualised sleep care plans. Parents evaluated the clinic positively, resulting in an ongoing sleep clinic programme, and the procedure has been shared with another team working with disabled children. Further evaluation could strengthen initial findings
