This month sees another step in the overhaul of the NHS pension scheme in England and Wales.

The contribution rate – how much staff pay in – is being changed. It comes after the closure of the final salary scheme in April 2022.

What has happened already?

Up until this year, there were essentially two pension schemes. Staff joining since April 2015 have only had access to the 2015 career average scheme, but some existing staff had been allowed to stay on the old final salary 1995/2008
