About 2.5% of the population in England has a learning disability, while latest estimates suggest that as many as 1.2 million people are autistic.

People with learning disabilities and/or autism face health inequalities throughout their lives and often have complex needs. Nurses in all settings will provide care for people with learning disabilities and autism, who will have a range of needs.
