‘Nurse’ title for unregistered roles is a dangerous deception
Misleading job titles in nursing imply our work is so minor that being a nurse amounts to no more than a uniform and a label. Healthcare support staff are valuable – and valued – members of the nursing team, and job-title inflation puts them in awkward situations. Creating an impression that non-registered staff are in fact qualified nurses gives patients and families a sense that services are better-staffed than they really are and puts public safety and trust at risk.
