An RCN emergency council meeting is to be held on Wednesday following the news that the council's vice-chair Richard Jones has stepped down for health reasons.

Mr Jones departure comes after Dee Sissons resigned from her role as council chair on Friday last week.

Departure comes after RCN has faced election disruption

The news comes after the suspension of the RCN president and deputy president elections, with two candidates being disqualified from the process.

An RCN emergency council meeting is to be held on Wednesday following the news that the council's vice-chair Richard Jones has stepped down for health reasons.

Mr Jones’ departure comes after Dee Sissons resigned from her role as council chair on Friday last week.

Departure comes after RCN has faced election disruption

The news comes after the suspension of the RCN president and deputy president elections, with two candidates being disqualified from the process.

The announcement of Mr Jones' departure was made by current RCN president Anne Marie Rafferty in an email to members. She said Mr Jones will continue in his role as council member for Wales.

Swift resolution and a return to 'the important issues'

Wednesday’s emergency meeting will be held to agree a way forward to elect a new chair and vice-chair.

Professor Rafferty told members the outcome of the meeting, including timeline and process, would be disclosed on Thursday.

She thanked Ms Sissons and Mr Jones for their service and assured members the college's council is ‘united in the aim of swiftly resolving this process and returning to the important issues at hand’.
