Most emergency nurses are familiar with regular attenders at A&E. SIMON BASTON discusses a project developed at his hospital that aims to discover who they are, and how they are managed
By definition, the ‘regular attender’ is well known to the emergency nurse. Most of us would agree with the findings of Mandelberg et al (2000) that a small number of patients make frequent attendances at emergency departments and account for a disproportionate amount of the total A&E workload.
