This article is a selected review of the research and literature regarding nurses requesting X-rays in A&E. How the need developed, how it is managed, what training is required and whether waiting times are reduced. The relevant issues of scope of practice, liability, patient and nurse satisfaction will be addressed. Finally, the author will discuss the limitations and recommendations for this change in practice.
