Following years of uncertainty with the legality of administering medication under group protocols, (or patient group directions as is now the new legal term), the government has at long last made an amendment order to the Medicines Act of 1968, which came into force on August 9, 2000. At this point, the amendment is only valid in England, and does not include the private or voluntary sector.
