Ms Sissons says decision was one of regret and she had been honoured to represent members
The chair of RCN council Dee Sissons has announced her resignation from the role.
Her announcement comes in the wake of the suspension of the RCN president and deputy president elections after two candidates were disqualified from the process.
‘Honoured to represent members at a critical time’
In a statement Ms Sissons said the decision was one of regret and she had been honoured to represent members.
‘It is with great regret that I announce my resignation as chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s governing council,’ said Ms Sissons, who began her two-year term as chair of council in January.
‘I have been honoured to represent members, particularly at such a critical time, as we all continue to work through the COVID-19 pandemic.’
She also thanked all those who have supported her in the role of council chair.
Ms Sissons says she will continue to fight for change as election of new chair announced
Ms Sissons said that she will retain her East Midlands seat on the RCN council and that she would continue to fight for the changes set out in the college’s independent governance review.

The statement also said that voting to elect a new chair from within RCN council will now take place.
