A nursing assistant's moving version of a song famously covered by Adele has been watched thousands of times around the world.

Emma Young enjoys performing from a piano at an inpatient unit at St Helena Hospice in Colchester for patients and staff.

But she has now reached a global audience after a video of her impromptu rendition of Make You Feel My Love, originally written by Bob Dylan and covered by many stars including Adele, was posted on Facebook.

The clip, filmed on a phone by a colleague, has been viewed more than 84,000 times since being posted on 22 July and has featured on international websites including CNN.

It has received hundreds of positive comments including from one relative who said it was ‘terribly moving’ because it was the last song his father heard.

Ms Young said: ‘I am completely shocked that the video has gone viral but I thank everyone who has shared it and shown support towards myself and St Helena Hospice.’

She added that she loves singing for patients and families as it helps them to forget what they are going through.

The hospice’s director of income and communications Sarah Green said it demonstrated that hospice care is not just about medical care and physical symptoms, but caring for the whole person and making people’s days brighter.
