The purpose of this article is to show how a patient presenting with advanced cancer can benefit from appropriate treatment and rehabilitation programmes within a palliative care environment, in the acute setting of a designated cancer unit.
In a case study, the author discusses the impact of local and organisational policies on the multidisciplinary approach that was adopted to enable the patient to gain an improvement in the quality and expectancy of life. For reasons of confidentiality, the patient’s name has been altered.
