Development of a wellbeing clinic for patients after colorectal cancer

Pauline McCulloch Colorectal lead nurse, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London

Pauline McCulloch describes how the service provides holistic needs assessment and supports people in coping with post-treatment challenges

This article explores colorectal cancer patients’ experiences of a wellbeing clinic that provides holistic needs assessment. Initially the clinic was set up as a pilot to assess and provide a supportive ongoing service for patients. The clinic has since become an integral part of patient support post-diagnosis. The wellbeing clinic enables structured exploration of patients’ concerns using the distress thermometer and problem list, support to help them cope and referral on to other agencies.
